What race is best for mage?

I would like to make a mage but was wondering what race is the best?

Best mage class is probably gnome because of the 5% intel bonus, which gives u a bigger mana pool and better spell crit. escape artist is okay too at times. If that doesnt tickle your fancy then go human for perception which will help out against rogues, but thats about all they got.
